Henri Wilks-Stebbings is a PhD candidate in the Department of Geology at the University of Salzburg. Originally from England, he is 24 years old and deeply passionate about the processes shaping the Earth’s surface. Over the past five years, he has specialised in earth surface processes and geomorphology, with a particular focus on mass movements and landsliding. This interest was first sparked during his final year of undergraduate studies at Liverpool University, under the guidance of Dr. Kevin Crawford.
Henri continued his scientific journey with an MSc in Earth Science at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where he explored process-oriented Earth Science through Tectonic Geomorphology, Sedimentology, and Numerical Geoscience. During this time, he was supervised by Drs. Duna Roda-Boluda and Benjamin Campforts, both experts in Geology, Cosmogenic Nuclide Dating, Geomorphology, Landscape Evolution, and Numerical Modelling. His time working here has only strengthened his skills in data analysis, critical thinking, and scientific presentation. Henri will look back on his time in Amsterdam with gratitude and wishes his colleagues every success in their future endeavors.
After completing his MSc in July 2025, Henri joined the Doctoral School of Dynamic Mountain Environments at the University of Salzburg. Over the next three and a half years, he will be supervised by Dr. Jörg Robl, a specialist in Landscape Evolution, Numerical Modelling, and Exogenic Geology. For more information on his research, please see the "Projects" tab above.
